Lance Corporal Nicholas Ayling Worsfold
Nicholas Ayling Worsfold, eldest son to Nicholas Worsfold Senior of Sims Cottage, Claygate and brother to George Gale Worsfold RN JX126628, later MX801983. Nicholas was originally in the Royal Navy and his service number was J97170. He joined 4th May 1920 and served on HMS Malaya from 30th April 1921 to 11th June 1922, his last ship was HMS Woolston 12th June 1922 to 16th August 1922. It appears he was laid off and may have been because of the reductions in the Royal Navy and as per the Versailles Treaty. He became a Postman from as early as 12th Sept 1936 but It appears that Nicholas joined the Lancashire Fusiliers prior to WWII and was with the BEF in 1940. He was captured 8th June 1940 at Forges, France but his service record is required to confirm the location, his service number and his Battalion is not yet known.
