I came across your very interesting site and would like to give you my father’s details as he was a POW at VIIIB. He died 15 years ago and did not tell us much at all but I have photos which I have found and card from Red Cross which I sent for. He survived the camp and the Death march.
His name is Victor ‘Vic’ Arnold, Royal Engineers as a Driver – Army number 2000116 Unit I.M.T.T.D. He was captured on the island of Crete but before that he was in Egypt and Palestine. His POW number is 21761 and work party number E232.
There is a photo taken in the camp with the following names on the back; H.Dant or Dent – John Attenborough – F G Gilbert – W Garner – E Rayner – Dai Davies – (Lord) Jim Smith )Southwark, London – York – A Fowler – J. Ashley – D Page – G. Lambert – Slim Hencherson – Taffy James – W.R. Cottrell. I imagine these men were friends in the same hut.
