I added my Father’s name to the list of prisoners a few years ago Cecil George Abel. I recently re opened an old email address and found Philip Baker had forwarded a letter to me  from Sam Marshall in 2011 regarding his Grandfather William Marshall who was captured with my Father on 24th January 1942.  Luckily I was able to contact him on the email address from 2011.

I would like to add a name to the list of POW’s at Stalag VIIIB, he was on the same work party as my Father. I met Alf through a magazine article in 1992 and joined him at the showing of the film “Satan at his Best” at the National Film Theatre.

His details are Alfred T Battams , Royal Engineers, Sapper 1908997. POW number 32979. He was born 1917 in Hackney, London and died 1995 in Westminster, London He was captured in 1942, I believe in Benghazi whilst down a mine shaft. I hope this is of interest to you.
