Data source: My father’s memoirs and papers recovered after he passed away in 2003.
Extra details: He arrived at Stalag XXA on 11 Jul 1940 and was moved to Stalag XXB on 13 Jul 1941.
He worked on a farm and escaped along with a fellow prisoner 3 weeks before the end of the war. They walked west by night, hiding in ditches and barns etc. during daylight hours to avoid recapture. They were reunited with British troops in Holland I believe.
He had a photograph of a young German officer who was a guard at the camp.
