In June 1940 George started from Woippy northern France on route to the French west coast to escape the German advance.
He was hounded by the German advance and so decided to make for Switzerland. He entered Switzerland June 21 1940.
He decided to try to get home in July 1941 so re-entered France and was caught by the Vichy France and interned in Fort de la Revere, France, for an unknown period. He was subsequently moved to Italy camp PG 73, date unknown, then to Lamsdorf. Processed through Lamsdorf Oct 1943 and allocated to Arbeitskommando E746. Presumed on the march but left the column by Prague and walked to the American Army station in Pilsen 8th May. Flown to south of England to recuperate before allow home months later due to physical condition.
