My father, William Butler, of Liverpool, was in Stalag VIIIB. His POW number was 24904. He was a TA at the start of the war in the Royal Horse Artillery. When arrived in Egypt the horses were put down and they were put with a tank regiment. He was captured in Crete, two years after living in hiding on the island. I understand he escaped before the camp was liberated and died in 1947 in a road traffic accident.
