My uncle:
Name: Robert William Chapman
Rank at capture: Corporal
Regiment: Royal Signals
Army No: 3711283
Camp Location Lambinowice, Poland. Lamsdorf (344)
POW No: 12668
Dates of Imprisonment: Feb 1942 to end of war
I have been scouring all the usual sites for some time now but my uncle is not mentioned by any one of them. I feel someone must have known him as he made several attempts to escape during his time at Lamsdorf. This is mentioned in a book written by the son of Major Kavan Elliot who led the SOE Operation Disclaim which resulted in the immediate capture of the whole party. (ISBN 0 316 64307 6 Title: I Spy by Geoffrey Elliot)
I could obtain the official Gov. reports but they are unlikely to tell me much about my uncles time at Lamsdorf. – copies are held at the National Archives in Kew but don’t come cheap!
