Eunice J. Conrad

Eunice J. Conrad was a Private First Class in the Army during World War II.

Eunice resided in Bartholomew County, Indiana before enlisting on February 15, 1943. At the time of enlistment, Eunice was 20 years old, had a grammar school education and was single, without dependents.

One year later, Eunice was captured by the Nazis while serving in Germany, and was sent to Stalag 344 near Lamsdorf, Germany where 167 other American POWs were held.

Eunice’s capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on September 22, 1944, and the last report was made on September 4, 1945. Based on these two reports, Eunice was imprisoned for at least 347 days (~12 months), about the average for U.S. POWs.

Ultimately, Eunice was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
