Information provided by Lee Cook

My great-grandfather, Lance-Bombardier William James Cook of the Royal Artillery, was captured at Dunkirk. He was reported missing May 26th 1940 and later confirmed to be at Stalag 344, Lamsdorf. He was later moved to Stalag VIIIA (Gorlitz) and then to Stalag IIIA (Luckenwalde). He eventually made it home, and passed away in 1966. I plan to get his prisoner number tattooed on my ankle on my 23rd birthday in two weeks’ time. It’s just a shame I never met him. Thanks for the info on this site. Of great interest.
