Private James William (Jim) Corbin
Have recently found the attached picture I think it comes from a book ‘Sailors in Cages’ by Roger V Coward, my father-in-law James William Corbin (Jim) is shown in the picture.
He was before the war a Dental Technician and as can be seen he was in Stalag VIIIB from when I’m not sure, he was captured in Crete and eventually finished at Lamsdorf.
He signed up at Canterbury Kent on 27.9.1939 and served in the RAMC service number 7538944, I believe his prisoner of war number to be 24271.
Jim although a very quiet man and never spoke very much of his war years, he died in 1986, he was very active sportsman and played Roller Hockey (Goalkeeper) before and after the war for Herne Bay, Kent and represented England on many occasions.
Sometime during the 1960’s from his memory he did speak briefly about his Long March! and wrote down the names of the towns/villages he walked through (lists attached), I think that the spellings may not be correct but after many years I think this is understandable. I have started to trace the route taken but am having problems.
