My father Ralph Doodson was a prisoner in Stalag VIIIB from 1940, having been captured at Dunkirk whilst serving with the East Lancs. regiment as part of a rearguard action. He was a prisoner until the cessation of hostilities in 1945. Whilst in the camp he lost around 5 stone and when he returned home found that his communication skills were impaired. However, he made a full recovery and continued to work at Hargreaves Paper Mill until his retirement in 1985. Unfortunately he passed away in 1999.
