My father was shot and wounded on Sicily and taken to hospital in Florence, Italy. He was was captured in 1944 and taken by cattle train to Stalag VIIIB/344 .

He was Wilfred Durham’s younger brother who was also a POW at the same camp, captured in 1941. They were (unbelievably!) reunited in the camp and spent the final year together and were, together, on the 1000km march.
