*During WWII, in order to deal with the shortfall in manpower within the Royal Navy, officers and men of the Merchant Navy agreed to serve with the Royal Navy using a form of agreement with the generic title ‘T124’. This is not a service number but is used as a device by the War Office in creation of POW Lists (TNA WO 392) and copied by the National Archives in creating the WO 416 catalogue. It appears nowhere else to our knowledge. When researching POWs this reference should not be used when applying to the ICRC however the National Archives reference BT 390 should be consulted.

Please include as much information and pictures as you can so that we can create a record of each man’s experience. With tens of thousands of POW records already on site please help us if you can by including at least one of the following: service number, POW number or date of birth.
