My father was private Harold Eveleigh from NZ captured in Crete. The number under a Stalag VIII stamp is 25022 I’m not sure what it means. He did say he escaped with a mate and stowed away on a Banana Boat. They were not caught. My father died in 1977 and he would never talk about his time as a prisoner.

He was reported missing in 9/7/41. The camp leader at Stalag VIIIB communicated he was a POW on the 27/8/42 POW number 25022. He was still a prisoner at Stalag 344 in 12/1/44. He was reported safe in the  UK on the 10/5/45.
