Finlow, D H
Private Douglas Hewitt Finlow
Details of my father-in-law who was in Stalag VIIIB and was also on the long march:
Name: Douglas (Doug) Hewitt Finlow
Regiment: 10th Royal Hussars
Role: Wireless operator
Rank: Private (I think)
Doug was a wireless operator (tank) and was captured in North Africa (Libya) in May 1942 (aged 23). He was initially interred in an Italian POW camp and later transferred to Stalag VIIIB in August 1943. He was on the “Long March” and has written a short account of his experiences on that journey. He escaped with a comrade and spent some time with the American forces before finally returning to England on 10th May 1945.
