Subject: New prisoner name
My uncle D. A. Freeth (known as Allan and married to my Aunt Margaret nee Williams ) was at BAB 21 Stalag VIIIB/344.
His details D. A. FREETH Pte No. 5251169.
(1st Battalion I think) of the Worcestershire Regiment. Pow number 36145.
It says in the records that he was captured in 1942…but that may be when he was sent to this camp as he was really captured at Dunkirk while they were trying to keep the Germans back to aid the escape on the beaches, he remarked that they weren’t too pleased that lots of French soldiers headed straight past them to the beaches whilst they had to stay and fight!.
I remember him saying that pre war he was in the TA, and that they were liberated by the Russians who had no food and they were pointed in the direction of the Allied front. He died in the mid 1980s.
It would be nice to see his name on your website
