My father William Thomas Gibbins was a nursing orderly, left behind after the evacuations of Dunkirk in 1940 and was repatriated in 1943.
He then spent the rest of the war as the driver for the commandant at Dover castle.
He also said that at one time the camp interpreter was Leonard Sachs, the compère of the old BBC programme “The Good Old Days”!
