Re Private Frank Goode captured at the raid of St. Nazaire (Operation Chariot).
As far as I have been able ascertain from various sources (sadly not from the man himself as he had passed away before I met his niece & married her) he was a member of 3 Troop, 2 Commando, joining prior to 1st August 1941. I believe he sailed into St. Nazaire on board HMS Campbeltown, disembarked after it had rammed the dock gates, and was employed as a Tommy gunner attacking/defending German gun emplacements. After capture he was detained with other personnel in a building (possibly a cafe), and there are two pictures clearly showing him so detained, but mistakenly naming him as Frank GOOCH!
I have included a couple of images (refer ‘Note’) of a photographic postcard he was allowed to send to his mother from Stalag 344 at Xmas 1943. He is the one with the cross above his head. It is possible the Bob Milne referred to with his choristers is Robert Milne who was also captured at St. Nazaire.
