Nikolai Halin
Information provided by Nikolai Rogachkov, Moscow.
Sorry, I speak only Russian and German – this appears with the help of the computer translator.
I and other living relatives of my grandfather, Nikolai Halin (in a German transcription – Chalin) are very interested in full details of his work in working commands (Arbeitskommando).
I know, certainly, that Soviet POWs sometimes worked on very harmful manufactures where others did not work as POWs. Therefore it will be very difficult to learn the circumstances of work there, working conditions, life etc. However, maybe someone from the POW camp worked near to Kommandos in which my grandfather and other Soviet POWs worked. In my opinion, it is possible.
Although his basic trade was countryside based, for some time he worked, in the Soviet Union, before the war, in a mine, and consequently had the chance to try to survive in captivity, by working in the Emmagrube mine – Arbeitskommando R195 in which workers fed much better, in comparison with those who remained in camp.
It would be very interesting to learn, on what Arbeitskommando work parties my grandfather worked in Doebeln and in the other place.
