My Grandfather Bob (Robert Hamilton) from New Zealand spent time at Lamsdorf.
Please can you tell me what E580 Czeladz means. As this is where he was.

Many of the men held in Stalag VIIIB / 344 were not in the main camp but in smaller work camps known as Arbeits Kommandos. These had ‘E’ numbers – eg E580. The “E” prefix stands for English, but POWs from many Commonwealth countries worked in these camps. There is a list of some of them on the website. Czeladz is the name of the place where they were based. It is now known as Czeladź, which is in Poland. I suspect that the men of E580 worked in a coal mine, as this was (and is) an important coal mining area. You can find out more information about this place through this link:
