My Grandfather was captured in Libya. He was a POW at Campos 17,66,49 and was one of the fortunate escapees from Fontanellato and made it home after nine months on the run. He arrived in Allied territory in the first week in June and wrote to my granny on 6th June 1944- invasion day. Although I didn’t learn much of this history directly from him we do have over forty letters that he sent to his parents and to my granny, Florence ,during his time in training in various parts of England and later as a pow in Italy.
