Information provided by Lynne Martin

My dad was captured at Dunkirk and was then a prisoner at Stalag VIIIB. He never really talked about it, but I believe that he was put into the mines in Poland, mining coal for the Germans, as he had been a miner at home in Derbyshire.

His name was Ronald Arthur Hope, of the Sherwood Foresters regiment. His DOB was 23/02/1919 and he passed away on 13/12/1986. I was the apple of his eye, and I adored him.

The only adverse effect of being a POW was that as a child I longed to go on holiday to Butlins at Skegness, but we never did, Mum said it reminded Dad of being a prisoner!!!
