My grandfather was captured on Dieppe, and spent 4 years in German pow camp Stalag VIIIB.
I learned later that he may have been in Stalag VIIIB, after meeting someone who’s father was detained there as well. He apparently remembered my grandfather’s name.
My grandfather’s name was Leonard Hudson.
He was trained in Saskatoon as a tank gunner I believe.
He was the only survivor from his tank, as it had sank upon leaving the landing craft. The rest of his crew had drowned.
Leonard Hudson died of a stroke in 1970 so I never grew old enough to know him.
