My father was in Stalag VIIIB for three years. His name was Ralph Graham Humphreys, New Zealand. He was in the air force a sergeant. His plane came down with 7 men aboard and its on the internet under W1226. My father has now died and I only have a few stories from him as he never spoke of it much, he actually got angry if we asked too many questions. I wanted to know if he worked outside the camp or not. My uncle told me a story that he swapped tags with a Maori fellow to do outside labour. I also have his prisoner of war tag and medals. We also have another prisoner of war tag for a Vivienne Bevan. We have photos of him with my father but cannot find him anywhere to return his tag to his family. We don’t know why Dad had his tag.
