Lockwood, Stanley
Gunner Stanley Lockwood
From: Charlie Lockwood

My father’s name was Stanley Lockwood, a gunner in the Royal Artillery (army number 1518988). His Pow number was 17950.
He was born in Paddock, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire on 5th December 1905. He was still a child during the First World War, but when the Second World War started in 1939, he was 33 years old. I don’t know when or where he enlisted, but I have found records showing that he was captured in 1942 and taken to Stalag 344 in Łambinowice (German: Lamsdorf).
From being captured until the end of the war, my father was held as a prisoner of war at Lamsdorf. He took part in the Long March and survived the war.
Just a few months after returning to the UK, he married my mother, Gladys Cooper, on 12th September 1945 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. He had three children, a daughter in 1949, myself in 1952, and another daughter in 1956.
My parents separated in 1957 and were divorced in 1960. It is believed that Stanley Lockwood passed away around 1970/71, while his wife, Gladys Lockwood, lived until 31st October 1996.
