Ray Maine was captured in Hazebrouck, France in May 1940. Hazebrouck, France on 30/5/1940. During his captivity he worked in a coal mine, possibly at Agneshütte in Katowice.

My father spent 4 yrs and 11 months in Stalag VIIIB, he  rarely talked about the war, but I do know he was sent to work in the coal mines during his capture.

He also survived the Lamsdorf Death March, and I have a very old piece of paper detailing parts of his journey. Place names mentioned are Agneshutte, Weiden, Landshut, Moosburg Stalag VIIIA, Altdorf, Regensburg and Rheims. He covered 874 km on foot and 174 km by rail.

He was liberated by the Americans on 29th April 1945.
