Enlisted Australian Army 27th July 1940 Claremont Western Australia.
Captured on island of Crete (Greece). POW for four years in Lamsdorf Stalag XIIIB

Pte John Leonard died 28th January 1949 as a result of TB contracted whilst a POW

I am Pte John Leonard McConkey’s nephew. I cannot locate any record on the internet of his service.

Below is a photograph of my uncle John Leonard McConkey with four of his mates as POW in Stalag VIIIB.
The reverse of the photograph has signatures of his mates. It was a post card sent to Pte John Leonard McConkey’s father Mr A McConkey, 250 Durlacher Street, Geraldton. It is a bit hard to read so I have written it as follows:

A reminder of the good? old days. From the boys.
Signed: Corey? (Unfortunately this signature is a bit hard to make out).
