• Where captured: TOBRUKMy father was a POW in the above camp from 1942 to 1943. Towards the arrival of the allies, he along with another POW escaped from a train that was taking the POWs to Germany. He spent approx.3 months in the Italian hills and mountains but was eventually recaptured and spent the rest of the war in a German POW camp Oflag 79 Brunswick. His companion for the 3 months that he was free was Lieutenant David Smith-Dorrien.
I have a couple of photographs of prisoners held at PG 21. This one shows a group of 21 officers with their names on the back. I also have a couple of original small paintings depicting scenes of PG 21.
