Pointon, C W J
Private Cyril William Joseph Pointon
My father, Cyril William Joseph Pointon, who sadly died young in 1961 when I was only 10, was captured at Dunkirk and spent the remainder of the war as a POW. He never spoke of it other than the fact that he had no hard feelings against the Germans and said that he felt the Brits and Americans were treated fairly. Not so much the Russians and Poles. Also, as a medical orderly (he’d planned to go to Med School just prior to the war) he assisted the medical team.
My mother (they had engaged just before the war) also recalls how distressed she was at the end of the war when his expected return date was delayed significantly. I guess he was one of those at that time who fell into Russian hands.
He attended Emanuel School, Battersea during the inter-war years and the school has been undertaking research into pupils who were POW’s. This is what I found:

Hope this comes in handy. I’m going to be bookmarking your website. I have to say it’s amazing to me now to realize what my father must have gone through.
