I have recently discovered your website and write on behalf of my wife Jackie who was the niece of Pte 7356063 Edgar Howard Proctor, a prisoner at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf after being captured on 28th May 1940.

Edgar died in 2006 (aged 87) after a short illness but had suffered with heart problems since the war.  His late wife Joyce was convinced that these had been caused by The Long March from which he had been so lucky to survive.
I do remember in the years before he died that he explained that as he spoke German he found himself in the role of interpreter for the German officers who did not speak English.  He said that he felt a big responsibility for this and was worried that he may not have understood what was said and had translated incorrectly.
I hope this helps and adds to Stalag 344.
