Regimental Sergeant Major Frederick Read
My Great Uncle was called Frederick Read and was Compound Leader at Lamsdorf from 1941 until 1942.
I didn’t know him very well as he got married and emigrated to Ghana after the war.
However he did write his memoirs of life as a POW and many years later we have published it. It is available as a Kindle download. I didn’t want to charge for it but the minimum fee on Amazon is 99p now.
I understand that those at the camp at that time would have known him well and judging from his book he was a force to be reckoned with!
I have also attached a few documents that are interesting. He was given the MBE after the war for his efforts. I believe he is centre cross legged in the picture which I think came from your website or discussion group.
I hope that this is useful. You can see further information about him on my genealogy site at http://www.pearces.org.uk/getperson.php?personID=I0054&tree=Pearce
Please feel free to contact me if you need any further details
