Sgt Douglas Robinson of 138 Squadron RAF was at Stalag VIII B POW #27739. He was a friend of Sheila Tozer, my mother who was a WAAF. He was shot down over France, on a special ops mission from Tempsford. We were amazed to see a photo of him and other crew members including Peter Tempsford-Smith in the book “Agents by Moonlight”. She did receive a letter from him when he was a POW, but never found out if he survived the war. I have tried my best to find out anything I could and have his capture card from the Red Cross – but still don’t know if he survived. Sue Bryant

We are not sure what family the man we are looking for had, as my mother met him as a very young girl during WW2. She had met him on the night she fell down a bomb crater and broke her back. When she joined the WAAFS she asked to be stationed near him at Tempsford, as she didn’t know many people being so young, and had no idea they were running special ops from there at the time! Theirs is just one of many interesting stories. It is such a sad thought that so many men died and suffered in these camps and worse that perhaps no one missed him, and his life is forgotten. We have his capture card, but no information on release or survival. My mother is still alive (88) and these memories are as fresh as yesterday.
