Simpson, S
Rifleman Sidney Simpson
My uncle, Sidney Simpson, was a prisoner of war in Lamsdorf from 1940 to 1945. As he arrived home in May, I assume he took part in the Long March and was liberated by the Americans.
He married in 1947 and had a family, but I remember he had long periods of illness and spent time in a mental hospital. I remember my mother saying he was diagnosed with what was then called “pre-senile dementia” as a result of his war experiences. He died in 1978 at the age of 59.
I cannot find any other information, I’m afraid, as all other members of the family, of his generation, have since died .
