Subject: My Father Walter Arthur Snape

My father was a Prisoner of war in Italy and in Germany.

He was on an Italian ship that was torpedoed by the British. I do not know the name of the ship. I have only this last week started looking into my dad’s 6 long years away at war, a prisoner for 4 of those. The 2 ships that match are the SS Scillin and the Sebastiano Veniero .

After the ship sunk, I am not sure how long after, but he was taken to a prison camp in northern Italy and worked on building a Dam. My father passed away in 2000 so I don’t have all the information and he never liked to talk about those dark years in fact it was taboo to mention at all.

I have such a deep sense of regret that I did not try to find this information long before now.
