Can you please add Eric Basil Thompson to your list of names of POWs.
I have embarked on research on my Grandfather Eric Basil Thompson (known as ‘Skin’) from Wellington New Zealand who was with Petrol Company, 10 Composit Battalion, 2 New Zealand Div. – a runner (M.M. medal).
He was wounded 25 May 1941 and captured on 27 May 1941 (I think) during the battle of Crete. He was evacuated to Greece and then sent by train to Stalag VIIIB.
Attached are his German POW papers with the date 2.9.41 and POW no. 22823.
I would like to share the attached copy of a photo of a wall hanging – an embroidery of many many signatures of those in the camp with him. The ‘spade’ has the words Stalag VIIIB Lamsdorf embroidered in it.
I have also included a photo which includes E B Thompson and the following POWs:
W H Holland, Wellington
W Sandford, Wellington
H A Dale, Canterbury
E S Stavely, Wellington
C Nicoll, Auckland.
I hope this is of some use/interest.
Any feedback to my email would be appreciated.
