Norman Ward
Information provided by Mark Burton:
My Grandfather: Norman Ward
Durham Light Infantry
Captured at battle of Sedjanane, Tunisia on 27th February 1943.Transported to and imprisoned in Italy aboard (I believe) the SS Congo. Imprisoned initially at PG 66 camp Capua near Naples and then further north at camp Laterina in Tuscany until the Italian surrender. He was then transported by the Germans to Lamsdorf. His repatriation questionnaire states that he was put to work on ‘railways’ and then mining which may have been in a salt mine although no information about this seems to be available.
In the winter of 1945 he took part in and survived the long march, possibly being liberated at Moosburg, as he mentioned seeing Patton.
