Thomas William Watson
Information provided by Paul Watson
I have heard from the International Red Cross that my father was held in Stalag VIIIB and although there is a Thomas Watson on your list it is a different person.
My father was Thomas William Watson, 1st Battalion The Rifle Brigade, army number 6911783, POW number 14269, and was captured at Calais on the 26th May 1940 and was sent to Stalag VIIA, Moosburg which I believe was used as a reception centre before being transferred to Stalag VIIIB on 21st June 1940. I don’t have any further details on how he was transported.
He was originally from Barnard Castle in County Durham and was born on 18th December 1907 and was a professional soldier. He survived the Long March and all I know about his liberation was that he flew back to the UK in the bomb bay of a Lancaster bomber, don’t know where he was liberated from or by who. He eventually died in about 1988.
