Woodhead, D
Sergeant Dudley Woodhead

My brother Mark has sent me your email and information. I am the youngest child of Dudley Woodhead, my name is Janette, and I was born 22nd January 1961. I was a late child in the family so my father was out of the army by the time I came along, but I have always been interested in my father’s involvement with the forces and particularly with his time in Stalag VIIIB.
I will be visiting my mother on Sunday so I will talk to her and find out as much information as possible, my mother has been ill recently, but her recall of the past is generally very good. A few years ago, I did write to a couple of the names listed in the diary as I wanted more of an insight into the person my dad was at that time but unfortunately both gentlemen declined, I understood it would have been difficult for them to talk about it. I also know many of the men are now deceased.
I have found that information relating to British POWs on the internet is limited and I am so pleased you have contacted us as I was sure there would be some written information somewhere about my father, I have often wondered about the Canadian connection as Mum says Dad did keep in touch with some of the men. Dad died in 1995 and never really spoke about his experiences to us children, my interest has grown since his death, and I wish I had had the opportunity to talk to him about this.
I have Dad’s photo album and there are some pictures in there that are from the Norway raids and also what looks like could be POW. Would you like me to send these for your opinion, unfortunately Dad has not written anything about them.
I can’t imagine what it must have been like for those men but always when I think of my Father and those circumstances, I am very emotional.
