Protecting Power’s visit to Stalag VIIIB Teschen and Stalag 344. January 1945

A Protecting Power Delegate made a visit to Stalag VIIIB Teschen starting 17th January. And a visit to Stalag 344 Lamsdorf on the afternoon of 22nd January. En route to Stalag 344 the Delegate stopped at work party E793 Blechhammer.
At E793 Blechhammer he was “informed by the German Officer representing the OKW, that the flowing detachments in this region:
E793 Blechhammer 1,168 POWs.
E794 Heydebreck 1,117 POWs.
E3 Blechhammer 854 POWs.
E711Reigersfeld 755 POWs.
E711a Reigersfeld 338 POWs.
E769 Hohenwald/Reigersfeld 328 POWs.
Total 4,560 POWs
had been ordered to march westward in the early morning of January 21st, 1945.
After a march of about 15 km. an order had been received, that they were to return to their respective camps, where they arrived late the same evening
On the morning of January 22nd, 1945 the POWs went to work as usual, but were returned at once, since the factory had stopped working.
They were waiting for new marching orders.”
